Tom and Dee's Excellent adventures - Uintas July 2008 Tom and Dee's Excellent adventures
Uintas Camping Trip, July 25-27, 2008

We went camping in the western edge of the Uinta Mountains, about 60 miles east of Salt Lake, along the Mirror Lake Byway Road around mile marker 27. The Uintas Range is one of two in the U.S. that runs east-west. The Mirror Lake Byway runs about 50 miles into Evanston, Wyoming.
We took lots of great photos, some with Deanna's new birthday camera that has terrific lenses to take special shots.

This is our campsite - a few hundred yards away from the road. No one else camped around us. A young moose walked right by our camp Friday night while we were enjoying our camp fire!

Friday, July 25 - We walked on the hillside above our camp and took photos of the beautiful wildflowers and other scenery around us.

View of Reid's Peak:

View of Bald Mountain from the hillside. Little did we know that we'd be crossing one of those snow fields the next day....

Saturday, July 26 - Trek to the peak of Bald Mountain at 11, 985 feet. There were wildflowers everywhere. Photos are taken as we ascended, reached the peak, and then descended.

This is the snow field mentioned earlier on this page that we saw from afar on Friday. You can see part of the path is barely uncovered. Below that is a drop off. It was very tricky and scary to get around this muddy, wet, and slippery spot.

This is Reid's Peak seen from above it. Note the earlier photo above earlier on this page from Friday's view of it from afar.

There was an area of "cairn art" on the peak. People keep adding to it as they reach the top.

Believe it or not, after the 4 mile hike to and from Bald Mountain's peak, we took another 4 mile hike around the area. This is a view of Bald Mountain from that hike and, again, more wildflowers. We got caught in the rainstorm that you can see brewing. While it was 101 degrees in Salt Lake, we were enjoying about 60 degrees during this storm!
